An Introduction to Mini Baccarat

Many online casino players enjoy baccarat, and this has resulted in a number of variations and themes of the beloved casino card game. Mini Baccarat is one of the most popular variations, and players just seem to want to play it more and more. Now you might be wondering what Mini Baccarat is and how it differs from the original version. Let’s take an in-depth look at what this casino game has to offer.

What is Mini Baccarat ?

When you first decide to play Mini Baccarat, it might seem very similar to the standard version of the card game we all know and love. However, there are some notable differences worth mentioning. As the name suggests, Mini Baccarat is a smaller version of baccarat, which means this variation uses fewer croupiers – only one, instead of the usual three croupiers. In Mini Baccarat, the croupier plays the role of the dealer and banker. There is a lower minimum stake when you compare this game to the standard version. This makes the mini version more appealing to beginners and players with a smaller casino bankroll.

How to play Mini Baccarat

It’s quite easy to learn the rules. Simply place a wager on what you believe the outcome of the game will be. Just like in the standard game, there are three options: a banker win, a player win, or a tie. Once you’ve placed your wager, the croupier will begin the game with the aim of getting a hand closest to the total of 9. Both the player and dealer are dealt two cards. Depending on the scores of each hand, the dealer will choose to either stand or deal another card. Once the dealer has made these decisions, the banker will announce the game’s winner. If the player or banker has an 8 or 9 total, the third card isn’t dealt for that hand.

Online Mini Baccarat follows the American rules, and an RNG (random number generator) is used to ensure that each game is played fairly. You’ll see three betting areas, namely for the player, banker, and dealer. In this variation, players do not get to handle the cards: only the dealer gets to shuffle and deal the cards.

Card values

Eight decks of cards are used, with the following values:

Cards from 2 to 9 have their face (or pip) value

Aces are worth 1 point

All 10s and face cards – kings, queens, and jacks – or any combination of these cards are worth 0 points.

As with all the variations of this casino game, hands must not exceed the total of 9. If the cards add up to a two-digit number, 10 is subtracted from the total value of the hand. For instance, a hand containing both a 7 and a 4 will equal 11 minus 10, which is 1.

Once the dealer announces the point count, one additional card can be drawn for each hand. The dealer will always stand on totals of 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Understanding the importance of number 9

The number 9 is key to this casino game, as the winner will want to score either 9 or as close to 9 as possible. Keep in mind that the maximum number of cards that the player will receive is three. Scoring a “natural” means that a total of 8 or 9 is dealt from the very first two cards. The odds are 1:1, unless both hands have the same value, which means there is a tie and neither hand wins or loses.

The history of Mini Baccarat

At the end of the 19th century, baccarat reached the US, thanks to the English and French citizens who lived there. However, the game was not that popular as everyone seemed to favour blackjack. During this time, baccarat made its way to Cuba and was renamed Punto Blanco, which stayed there until the 1950s. A casino player and writer, Tommy Renzoni, took the card game to Las Vegas, where it went through a rebirth among casino players. This gave rise to the third variation, known as North American baccarat. Americans became intrigued with this game, and soon created some variations of their own, including Mini Baccarat. Players loved the low table limits that the mini version offered, and that’s why this is one of the most popular online baccarat games today.
